We’re a family of four with two children, and our story started with us as a young family renting summer homes on Fire Island as well. We’ve explored the island’s diverse communities, from Fair Harbor to Ocean Beach, Seaview, and Ocean Bay Park, before putting down roots in Robbins Rest, which we now call home.

Fire Island has been part of our lives since we were kids ourselves, and we’ve come to know its unique charm and quirks inside out. One of the most significant challenges we faced—and one we know many families experience—is managing the logistics of vacationing here with young children. Without cars on the island, everything must come over by ferry. There’s only so much you can carry, and the trek from the ferry to your rental can be daunting when hauling gear, toys, and supplies on your back or by wagon. While the freight ferry is an option, we understand that it can feel intimidating, unfamiliar, or simply too much of a hassle for some.
